Press Reviews

C. Kilvington. ‘CLASSICAL GUITAR MAGAZINE’, England

“… Rodes exhibits an excellent modern technique which is unfailingly at the service of a refined musicality and very considerable sensibility, his natural good taste abounding at all times… His artistry was most warmly ackonowledged by the appreciative audience whose response elicited from the player encores by Barrrios and Granados, further evidence of the very considerable poetry this young man has to offer…”

Patricia Morales. EXCELSIOR’, Mexico D.F.

“…In the hands of Ignacio Rodes, the expressive possibilities of the guitar are infinite. His commitment to classical music is readily apparent in his concert performances, which are models of inspiration and professionalism…The public’s response was excellent, as was his playing.”
XV International Cervantine Festival, Guanajuato, Mexico

Dieter Romer. ‘FRANKFURTER ALLGEMEINE ZEITUNG’, Germany

” …Ignacio Rodes demonstrated in his recital a remarkably intense and distinguished musicality, accompanied throughout by a clean and delicate sound…”
Alte Oper, Frankfurt

Gerd M. Dausend. ‘ GITARRE & LAUTE’, Germany

“… In the Fantasía Elegíaca by F. Sor, the first work in a most attractive and demanding programme, Rodes’ playing captivated the audience by producing a very transparent atmosphere imbued with great creative force, an uncompromisingly classical and profound approach and a full, rounded and clear sound… Rodes is one of the few Spaniards who undestands the music of J. S. Bach and can play it analytically and very intensely, while at the same time maintaining an unfailing musicality. In the Sonata in C Major BMW 1005 we were treated to a most powerful performance, lavish in its attention to detail and clarity… In the second half of the programme, Rodes surprised the public with Four Spanish Pieces by J. Turina, offering and exquisite and authentic interpretation and a choice of timbre that imparted an impressionistic flavour and an attractive additional charm to these pieces… Rodes concluded his recital with the Sonata Op. 47 by A. Ginastera. Once again, this guitarist displayed the qualities already mentioned, retaining control of the sound even in the most impetuous passages. As in the rest of the programme, he brought to this difficult work an impeccable technique. The audience of over 800 people responded with enthusiasm. Rodes showed his appreciation by treating us to three encores. A truly impressive performance!…”
Internationale Stuttgarter Gitarrentage

Paul Sayegh. ‘THE VIRGINIAN-PILOT’, USA

‘… Classical guitarist’s abilities shine in the music of Spain, his home…Rodes played with impressive technical command and musicianship, demonstrating the performer’s mastery of the colour and technical devices available to the modern guitarist…two encores by Tarrega ended the program. Here, the simplicity and warmth of Rodes’ playing was beautiful, bordering on song…’
Virginia Center for the Arts

Leopoldo Hontañón. ‘ABC’, Spain

“… The great finesse and the careful neatness of diction, together with a subtle and very musical sense of accentuation, make up the excellent interpretative ways of Rodes …”
VI Festival Internacional de Música Contemporánea, Alicante

Enrique Franco. ‘EL PAÍS’, Spain

“… Ignacio Rodes, an excellent guitarist from Alicante, splendidly performed the solo part of the Concert for Guitar and Orchestra by J. Guinjoan, highly virtuosic …”
VI Festival Internacional de Música Contemporánea, Alicante

C. Cooper.  ‘CLASSICAL GUITAR MAGAZINE‘, England

” … Ignacio Rodes has done it triumphantly… Rodes performance is recognizably of our time, yet always flexible and eloquent, played with concentration and purpose -as indeed is every work on this CD….He is never slack, never sloppy, he never indulges in excessive sentiment; he looks at the music, he sees what is there, and he devotes his whole effort to reproducing it in sound. Not for nothing has this Spanish guitarist won four international first prizes…. the excellent perfomance makes this CD unmissable.”
CD Sonatas for Guitar.

“… Ignacio Rodes is completely on top of it all, bringing his own high standards of familiar and unfamiliar alike… His supremely aristocratic tone and exquisite phrasing are heard throughout, a tribute to the understanding of the composers…”
CD The Spanish Guitar wirhin two centuries.

Leopoldo Hontañón, ‘SCHERZO MAGAZINE’. Spain

“… Rodes is a very intent player, showing great elegance and exquisiteness, with vital spirit for contemporary music… We strongly recommend this recording.”

  ‘RITMO’ Magazine. Spain

“THE CONFIRMATION OF A GREAT GUITARIST. Ignacio Rodes, who had already dazzled us with his previous recording “Sonatas for Guitar”, presents now an immaculate work with three great guitar concertos full of virtues in a splendid recording. But I would like to underline the one by Ernesto Halffter. It is an ambitious work, marvelous, with an incredible orchestral color; he recalls the madrigalescan period and the ‘tonadas populares’ but with the highest elegance and discretion. This concerto from which we also have to mention the work of conductor E. Colomer would be enough to recommend the acquisition of this CD.”
